Atlanta adopted me.

Atlanta adopted me.

On Thursday, April 3, at 6 pm, Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., multi-Grammy-nominated Recording Artist Raheem Devaughn, TV Host and Comedian Amanda Seales, RCA Artist Dee-1 (@dee1music), #Detroit Recording Artist Ro Spit (@Ro_Spit), Radio Personality Bijou Star, and @DJBJ3525 will bring the Hip Hop Caucus Act on Climate Campus Tour to Wayne State University in #Detroit, looking to lift up voices from the black community in support of action on #climatechange.

According to the CDC, black children in #Michigan are more than twice as likely as white children to report having #asthma, putting them at higher risk of asthma attacks resulting from dirty air caused by climate change. Last year, Detroit ranked sixth in the country in asthma prevalence. A 2011 University of Michigan study showed that more than 80 percent of black school children attend schools located in the top-10 percent of the most polluted locations in the state. According to the report: โ€œschools located in areas within the stateโ€™s highest industrial air pollution levels had the lowest attendance rates โ€” an indicator of poor health โ€” as well as the highest proportions of students failing to meet state educational testing standards.โ€

The Hip Hop Caucus Act on Climate Campus Tour is visiting six cities and six college campuses over five weeks for evening events with local community, faith, education and business leaders, highlighting the disproportionate impacts and costs of climate change, and calling for action.
